Beyond the Lemonade Stand
It all started with a family garage sale. The Club’s founder, Amber Wakem’s daughter, Harper, decided she wanted to set up a lemonade stand. But after a few questions, Harper realized that adults don’t want lemonade in the morning; they want coffee. “Flipping Coffee” was created after guided research was performed including the same steps kids go through as part of the $tart-Up! Kid’s Club: market research, business development, pricing strategies, branding & marketing…and more. The program is set up in a way that kids, even as young as kindergarten, will grow their creative thinking skills as they work through goal-setting, adhering to deadlines, and capitalizing on opportunity, not to mention handling disappointment.
I support and volunteer for this organization because I believe that if kids learn to think like entrepreneurs from an early age, they will be more confident (reducing the rate of bullying and suicides), better employees (raising income potential), and overall healthier and happier (increasing productivity). As such, I believe this organization is not only affecting individual children, but society as a whole.
